I have a slight theory... I was already in a triggered state and so it very much wasn't a "healthy adult" moment, rather the fragile composure I have while triggered that gets me out and safe came crashing down when the vortex toy hit my jawbone (the kid has a solid arm on him).
The shock of the toy hitting "wasn't in the plan" and so I got angry and reacted, just wanting the toy far away from me, yet there were adults around so didn't want to be cruel to the boys. I succeeded in freaking out the boy who had threw it, he got scared it would land on the roof, I'm a better throw than that.
I was thankful my friend was there to help me emotionally regulate. She consoled me out of the shock and listened to me express the trigger.
Does that make sense?
