Hi @Former-Member
@Sans911 ...... good morning.
I just want to add a comment in here from a carer's perspective ....... and case workers and therapists are carers .....:: although I can only speak for myself and my observations of others, rather than being able to speak for others directly.
Carers know the power of negativity to drain people ...... both internally, and externally, draining the energy of others ...... but ......
(And there is a big butt here ..... lol ...... )
Firstly, they have chosen to step up to that position of caring, warts and all, and continue to choose it, despite its draining nature.
Secondly .......and this is the most important aspect for you to understand I think ..... carers by necessity develop a Teflon lining ...... it's a form of emotional shield that allows you to listen, to empathise, to understand, to act, to remain present ....... all those things ...... but prevent the draining nature of negativity through that shield. It means that the negativity remains with you, but the validity of that negativity, the pain it expresses, the absence of hope and self-belief, self-esteem ....... all those painful aspects are heard and supported.
I think the Teflon lining needs periodic replacement or recharge ...... but that part is the responsibility of the carer themselves.
Maybe too, in the field of mh there are many people in the carer role with their Teflon worn too thin, jaded, damaged, not taking the time to review / renew their Teflon ....... and that is not good either .......: not that it even needs to be said. It that state they lose their connectivity, their empathy, their ability to establish rapport with their clients ...... and subsequently become part of the problem, which exaccerbates the problem.
The bottom line to all this is for you to try not to feel guilty about off-loading all that negativity ....... it's a very necessary part of your healing ...... and your carers are there for you for that reason .....
