Re: A conversation with Sarah Wilson // Wed. 11 May // 7pm AEST

I was wondering, what are your theories on “the cause” of your anxiety? Today there are countless theories as to the genesis of anxiety. Early trauma, an overactive amygdala, low levels of certain chemicals in the brain and a handful of genes have been implicated. Also, autoimmune disease and gut issues and gene abnormalities for things like pyrolle disease and MTHFR...

I think that one of the smartest things they ever taught me at uni is that most things are multi-determined.  So there are likely to be a few things in play.  I wonder if people relate more to the early trauma, or simply troubled family life, or with the biological aspects to the condition?

We had a great discussion in the Forums recently about the impact of one on the other.

Hi everyone and Sarah... Wow I didn't realise you suffered with anxiety. Mine started with a huge mental breakdown at age 25 and I've only just started to 'recover' in the last few years and I'm 32 now. I think so many things contributed to it, for me a lack of family support was a huge factor, being an only child and both my parents only children

This is my first forum and I am finding it difficult to follow - do I just reply under a comment or should I try to follow the flow of a conversation?
